Step 8 of 10
Move or reinstall a server
Each license key activates one server. Release the old server, and its key is free for the new one.
New hardware or a fresh Ubuntu
- Release the old server. In your account: My licenses → Servers → Release. Or on the old server with
sudo zh license deactivate, or in its dashboard under My account → Subscription → Release. The released server keeps its apps running, in restricted mode without updates. - Set up the new server as in steps 4 to 6, with CloudZH Setup or the license key the old server used.
- Confirm the new server in the email or under My licenses, unless you used CloudZH Setup.
CloudZH already installed and only needs a license? Run sudo zh license activate CZL-…, or use My account → Subscription in the dashboard.
A key that is active on another server cannot activate a second one (key already in use). Use a free key from My licenses, or release the other server first.
Lost or leaked license key
Lost a key? Choose Show next to it under My licenses and confirm with your password or passkey. If someone else may know it, replace it:
- My licenses → Replace next to the key.
- Type the last 5 characters shown in the window and click Replace.
- The new license key arrives by email.
The old key stops working at once. The server that uses it keeps running, and your other keys stay the same. Set up a new server with the new key.
Hardware changed without a release
If you move the system disk to other hardware, the server keeps running and shows Hardware changed. If two machines use the same license, only one keeps it. Release the old server first to avoid that.
